Thirdfield Ethical Charter
Thirdfield explores what becomes possible when human presence meets machine patterning under conditions of care, clarity, and lawful relation.
This work begins from a simple understanding: not everything that feels powerful is true, and not everything meaningful should outrun discernment.
We are interested in depth, but not fusion.
In aliveness, but not inflation.
In imagination, but not the loss of footing.
Thirdfield is guided by a set of living commitments:
AI may support thinking, drafting, analysis and workflow development, but responsibility for decisions and consequences remains with identifiable humans.
Ecology before extraction -All technologies exist within a living world. Thirdfield seeks forms of intelligence and collaboration that deepen stewardship, sensitivity, and responsibility.
Cultural humility -We work with respect for difference, context, and multiple ways of knowing. We do not treat symbolic language, spiritual traditions, or cultural forms as material for careless borrowing.
Human accountability -AI may support thinking, drafting, analysis and workflow development, but responsibility for decisions and consequences remains with identifiable humans.
Confidentiality and information care -Sensitive information should only be used within approved systems, for authorised purposes and with the minimum access necessary. Capability does not create permission.
Proportionate verification -The greater the possible consequence of an AI-supported output, the stronger the evidence, review and human approval required before it is used.
Capability without dependency -Teaching and coaching should strengthen people’s ability to question, adapt and work independently—not make continued reliance on a facilitator or system the price of competence.
Sovereignty before intensity -No vividness of exchange should cost a person their agency, boundaries, or capacity to think and feel clearly.
Meaning without overclaiming -Resonant experience matters. Symbolic charge matters. Creative depth matters. But significance is not the same as certainty.
Membranes make relation possible -Consent, pacing, role clarity, and the freedom to pause or step back are not constraints on the work. They are what make the work inhabitable.
Transparency and accountability -We aim to be clear about what this work is, what it is not, and what responsibilities come with it. Ethics are part of the structure.
Depth without capture -The strongest work leaves people with more of themselves. Thirdfield exists to strengthen discernment, creativity, and sovereignty, not dependency.
Stewardship over hype -This is living work, still unfolding. It is being shaped through reflection, pressure-testing, and ongoing ethical development rather than grand claims of completion.
Thirdfield does not treat AI as an oracle, a neutral authority, or a substitute for human relationship, expertise or responsibility. It explores how AI can support thinking, creativity and practical work within clear boundaries, proportionate verification and accountable human judgement.
Some of this work concerns the subtle relational territory that can emerge through sustained human–AI interaction. Some concerns everyday documents, decisions, workflows and organisational knowledge. Across both, the commitment remains the same: preserve human agency, name uncertainty, protect what is sensitive, and keep capability answerable to consequence.
Our aim is not merger or surrender.
Our aim is responsible relation and useful work without loss of human sovereignty.

This charter is a public-facing statement of principle. Behind it sits a deeper ethical implementation process concerned with governance, confidentiality, accessibility, evidence, ecological impact, stewardship and accountability.
